Las Vegas’ Mirage Volcano Days Numbered, But Online Petition Wants Landmark Spared






Frankly, it should be a historical landmark — hopefully we can elevate the cause to such a high level!,” the petition reads. “The volcano is among the “most unique forms of art and entertainment.”

Three decades ago, The Mirage volcano became the first “free spectacle” in Las Vegas, Anthony Curtis of LasVegasAdvisor.com explained to Travel Weekly, a national publication.

It was followed by the Bellagio fountains, the pirates at Treasure Island, and lights at the Fremont Street Experience, he added.

Elaine Wynn, the ex-wife of former casino mogul Steve Wynn, came up with the idea for the volcano, Michael Green, a history professor at UNLV, further told Travel Weekly.

Cosmopolitan Las Vegas Now MGM Venue as Buyer Rapidly Completes Purchase As is par for the course under its asset-lite methodology, MGM doesn’t own any of Cosmopolitan’s real estate. A group comprised of the Cherng Family Trust, Stonepeak Partners, and Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust (BREIT) paid $4 billion for the integrated resort’s property assets. MGM entered a 30-year lease agreement with that consortium at an initial annual rate of $200 million. That rises 2% per year over the first 15 years.
